Services

During your time at Indiana University, we want you to think of us as your health care provider. You'll get quality medical, mental health, and wellness care at reasonable prices–without even having to leave campus. We are a one-stop shop for all of your health care needs.

The IU Student Health Center has been accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). To ensure that the IU Student Health Center continues to offer the highest standards of medical and mental health care, it undergoes AAAHC re-accreditation every three years.

Medical Clinic

Don’t miss out on campus life because you’re feeling lousy. The Student Health Center offers all the amenities of a full-service medical clinic, right here on campus. Services include: primary care, gynecology, lab tests, x-rays, allergy shots, immunizations, physical therapy, acute eye care, sports performance, and a pharmacy.

You can schedule an appointment with our medical providers online. Visit our online scheduler to make a same-day or future appointment. You can also call 812-855-7688 to schedule. We also offer walk-in services for when same-day appointments may be filled. Just head to Room 216 upon arrival to get the care you need right away.

New this year are virtual visits which give you access to our highly skilled providers on your smartphone, tablet, or computer. Patients can see and talk to a provider in real-time. Virtual visits are a great way of containing the spread of infection and safely treating patients. They also make Student Health Center services available to students who are unable to come to our clinic.

Pharmacy

At the Student Health Center pharmacy, we offer competitive prices on prescriptions and can fill (or refill) prescriptions from any licensed U.S. prescriber, including your hometown doctor. We also carry a wide range of over-the-counter (OTC) medications. Prescriptions can be filled promptly while you wait or you can call ahead for same-day refills to pick up at your convenience. Most prescriptions with additional refills at another pharmacy can be transferred to our location using our online form. The Student Health Center does file claims for prescription medications. If you have an insurance card for prescription drug coverage, please present your card to our pharmacy.

The Student Health Center Pharmacy can deliver prescriptions and over-the-counter medication to your residence hall for free and can also deliver to your home via postal mail for a $5 charge if you live within the state of Indiana. The service does not include delivery of controlled substances, decongestants, or refrigerated medications. Click here to enroll.

Counseling and Psychological Services

It doesn’t matter whether you’re having a serious mental health crisis or you just want to discuss a problem with someone–the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) team is here for you. We are located on the fourth floor of the Student Health Center. Our trained, professional staff will give you the confidential support you need. We know that mental health treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all. We’ll customize your care to your situation. Services include: individual counseling, couples counseling, group counseling, online and in-person workshops, video counseling, psychiatric care, and the Let’s Talk multi-cultural outreach program. Check our current groups and workshops schedule on our website.

If you're a first-time client, you can schedule your free, 30-minute CAPS Now appointment online. This initial appointment will connect you to the CAPS services that are right for you. All IU students who have paid the student health fee receive two free CAPS counseling visits each semester. Make an appointment by calling 812-855-5711.

Sexual Assault Crisis Service (SACS)

If you’re a member of the IU community and you have experienced a sexual assault, the Sexual Assault Crisis Service (SACS) team is here to help. SACS is a special part of CAPS, staffed by counselors who specialize in working with those who have experienced sexual violence. For SACS services, including crisis response, call 812-855-8900. Services are free and available to all members of the university community. Counselors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Wellness and Health Promotion

Our Wellness and Health Promotion department provides individual services for health coaching, nutrition, sexual health, tobacco cessation, and massage therapy. Make an appointment by calling 812-855-7688 or schedule online. Additionally, health educators are available to provide information on a variety of health topics to individuals, groups, and academic classes. Examples of frequently requested topics include: stress management, developing resiliency, nutrition, weight reduction, sexuality, sexual orientation, gender identity, tobacco cessation, and building healthy relationships. Request a presentation.

Substance Use Intervention Services

Offers a safe, judgment-free space for drug and alcohol use and recovery support through the Collegiate Recovery Community. To reduce the harm created by the presence and use of alcohol and other drugs on campus, we provide education, brief intervention to students and student groups, programming, and recovery support to students on campus. We are located at 506 N. Fess Ave. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Evening and weekend appointments are available by request. For more information, visit go.iu.edu/SUIS.

Charges

Payment for services may be made by cash, check, debit, or credit, or enrolled students can send charges to their student account. With the exception of Blue Cross and Blue Shield PPO plans, we do not accept insurance for medical services. (Check with Blue Cross and Blue Shield to see if Indiana University Student Health Center is in network with your specific plan.) The cashier will provide an itemized receipt for you to submit to your insurance company. If you are enrolled in a Blue Cross and Blue Shield PPO plan, please present your insurance card to the cashier on your first visit.

Please note the Student Health Center is not a contracted provider for Medicaid, Medicare, or the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP). Students with these types of insurance should use an in-network provider to maximize their benefits. If the patient chooses to use the Health Center, claims will not be submitted and the patient will be responsible for all charges.

Students currently enrolled in three or more credit hours are entitled to services at a significant discount (some free) by paying the mandatory health fee. Students who are enrolled in less than three credits may pay the health fee directly at the Health Center. Spouses and dependents of students (12 years or older) are eligible for services, but are not eligible to pay the health fee.
