Enrollment and Student Academic Information Bulletin

Other Registration Options

The course department will determine the audit policy for each class. Please be aware that, in some cases, permission to audit a class will not be granted (see notes below).

Audit-Only Students
If you are not taking any classes for credit, you can register as an audit-only student on or after the first day of classes. You'll need to get an Audit Authorization form signed by each course department and upload it along with a completed Quick Admit form, Residency form, and/or Criminal Update form.

All forms should be uploaded to Student Central via the secure contact form. Select Audit All Class(es) from the Student Records section of the Topic dropdown.

Residency forms and Criminal Update forms are required for students new to the university, students returning to IU after twelve or more consecutive months, and/or taking classes for the first time since graduating or moving to a new academic career (such as undergraduate to graduate).

For international students: Before submitting your auditing paperwork online, please bring your immigration documents, including your passport, visa, most recent I-94, and I-20 or DS-2019 (if applicable), to the Office of International Services (OIS) in the Poplars Building, room 221. The OIS will review your application to audit an IU class and determine if there are other U.S. immigration requirements you should meet.

Note: After the first week of classes, a late registration fee will be assessed.

Any student enrolling in one or more classes for credit and wishing to enroll for an additional course as an auditor can process the request on or after the day of their initial registration for the term.  The student can download an audit add authorization memo for each course that must be signed before reporting to Student Central.

Note: Classes taken for no credit (audit) are not counted as completed academic credit but are reflected on the student’s grade report and the official permanent academic record with a grade of NC (no credit). Audit classes are also excluded from consideration for official IU certification purposes.

Note: Kelley School of Business undergraduate classes and School of Public Health SPH-I courses are not available for audit enrollment. Maurer School of Law courses may only be audited by degree-seeking graduate students.
